Purpose: Students will demonstrate their ability to use helping skills in professional caregiver communication. Role play practice scenarios In group of three, one classmate be the care provider, one classmate be the client and one classmate be the observer. Format: Students will write a dialogue of a conversation between the care provider, observer and a client (or a professional caregiver and a co-worker). The dialogue will demonstrate that the student understands how to use effective communication as a helping skill. Requirements: 1. Format: The format of the dialogue will be the same as the sample included with this assignment. The sample can be found on page 115-116 of the course manual (Dialogue between Care Provider and Carol). The required formatting includes: a. Words that are spoken should use quotation marks. Example: Care Provider: “You sound frustrated with all the fighting.” b. Words that describe actions should come before spoken words. Example: Care Provider: Sits on the couch facing Carol. “You sound frustrated with all the fighting.” c. After each line of Care Provider dialogue, use brackets to note the communication helping skills you included in that line. Example: Care Provider: Sits on the couch facing Carol. “You sound frustrated with all the fighting.” [attending behavior, empathy] 2. Length: The length of the dialogue will be no less than one page. The page should be single- spaced.
