Examine how each set of standards expects social workers to utilize the concept of person-in-environment.

Briefly discuss your view of how/if these two sets of standards play a role in advancing human rights or social and economic justice.

You are employed at a non-profit mental health clinic as a clinical manager. This presentation will be shown to all newly hired social workers.

In your presentation, include the following (based on the state in which you live or intend to practice):

Provide a brief explanation of what external factors (historical, social, cultural, economic, organizational, environmental, and/or global) led to the creation of licensing laws and the regulation of professional practice.

Explain how a mental health practice and/or a social work practice is defined according to your state’s laws or regulations.

Provide the web address where employees can learn about social work licensure and/or certification in this state.

Examine the mandatory reporting laws in your state.

Explain the regulations regarding involuntary commitment.

Now, pick up from where you left off last week. Last week, you identified rapid assessment instruments that could be utilized for screening/assessing a client that has the behavioral health issue that is related to your focus topic. You will now create a biopsychosocial (spiritual) assessment template that could be used for this special client population. Your submission will be in the form of a brochure.

Pretend you have been asked to create this assessment for a program that specializes in working with this client population. When creating your assessment, ask yourself: What standard information should be in their biopsychosocial (spiritual) assessment? What unique or specialized information should also be included? How much information should be gathered to be thorough, yet not overwhelm the client at the first session? (Keep in mind that sessions/appointments are typically one hour.) Your brochure should include the assessment plus important information based on these questions that would assist others in completing the assessment, then interpreting the results.

This week, you will revisit your focus topic and the behavioral health issue that you chose in Week 3. You will also continue to visualize yourself in your role as a clinical manager at a local non-profit mental health clinic.

This time, the director of clinical services has informed you that the clinic recently obtained a $25,000 grant to address the very issue you have chosen as your focus. Because the clinical director knows you are passionate about this topic, you have been asked to identify two new evidence-based programs that address this issue. You will present both programs to the clinic’s Board of Directors via a PowerPoint presentation. Based on the quality of your presentation, the board will choose one of your programs to implement within the clinic. 

To complete this assignment, utilize the NREPP database on SAMHSA’s website. You must address the following for each program:

Hannah Johnson is a 24-year-old Caucasian female who was referred to you for outpatient therapy by her primary care physician. Hannah sought treatment from her physician for symptoms of depression and anxiety following an intense argument with her boyfriend of 6 months, which caused him to break-up with her. Hannah informed her physician that she has been having panic attacks daily for the last five days since the break-up. She also stated that she had called into work “sick” each day because she had no motivation, felt “hopeless,” had insomnia nightly, and could not stop crying. Hannah denied feeling suicidal. Hannah asked her physician for medication to “make the pain go away.” Her physician prescribed her seven pills of .5mg Xanax to take at night, as needed, with no refills. She was told by her physician that what she really needed was therapy to help her address her depression and anxiety and that a quick fix from a medication would not be a long-term solution.

Her physician had seen her request medication numerous times “to make the pain go away” when she was facing the ending of a relationship. At her intake session with you, Hannah disclosed that she had a history of failed romantic relationships and “hated” being single. She described herself as “a romantic” and “fell in love easily,” but her relationships never lasted more than six months. She described her past relationships as “exciting and intense at first” but full of drama as the excitement wore off. She also stated she felt extremely anxious, abandoned, and depressed when her relationships ended. Hannah stated that her ex-boyfriends always ended the relationships stating she was “too needy.” She said she “felt like a failure” and wanted to know “what is wrong with me? Why can’t I keep a boyfriend?”
