Handout1:CaseStudy:Alex Alex is a 12-year-oldboywho presentstothe… Handout 1: Case Study:Alex Alex is a 12-year-old boy who presents to the hospital with his mother and twin brother, Luke, with complaints of feeling “down” most of the time and “nervous” at school. Alex states he attends school regularly and achieves A’s and B’ s, but that he becomes very nervous when interacting with other students, teachers, and school staff members. He states he often feels sad at home and sometimes thinks his mother and brother would be better off without him. Alex denies past suicidal ideation or attempts, but states that in the past two weeks he has had thoughts of wishing he was dead. Alex has a history of hypothyroidism, but that is controlled with medication.Alex’s mother and brother express concern over Alex’s sadness and occasional irritability at home. They state Alex has stopped participating in usual family activities such as family game and movie nights. Alex states he has little desire to participate in activities he used to enjoy such as socializing with his twin, skateboarding, and playing video games. Instead, he spends most nights doing homework, reading, or sleeping.
