What do I need before I start the assignments? |
For starters, you’re going to need a microphone if you do not have one. These are available at any computer store, Best Buy, Radio Shack or Circuit City, and should run between $7.00 and $10.00. You might prefer to purchase a headset (which includes headphones with an attached microphone) at a cost averaging closer to $15.00 to $20.00. If you do not purchase a headset, you will want to have a pair of speakers, in order to hear the playback of your recordings. Then you will need to follow the instructions below to setup your computer to access the voice tools.
Please note: The Voice Tools are only able to be accessed online. Therefore, you must be connected to the Internet and logged in to this course to complete this assignment.
Just click on the iConnect Voice tab under Course Home to get started on the weekly assignments!
In order to complete the Assignments:
Throughout this course you will be recording and submitting weekly audio presentations of medical terms. The purpose of these presentations is twofold:
1. to ensure that your pronunciation of medical terms is accurate; and
2. to provide a way for your instructor to evaluate you on how well you pronounce the terms.
To facilitate this process, a chart has been included in each weekly tab entitled, “Pronunciation Assignment.” The chart contains all of the 20 medical terms in your assignment, along with their phonetic breakdowns, and an audio rollover in which you’ll hear the terms pronounced correctly. Simply click your mouse over the play button to hear it pronounced.
Use the chart to practice your pronunciations prior to submitting your final audio presentation. If necessary, write out the phonetics two to three times to get familiar with the way the word sounds. Listen to the pronunciations as many times as you like and pronounce the terms aloud. Once you are comfortable with this process, make your recording. Listen to the playback. Then submit the assignment to the appropriate dropbox when you are satisfied with the quality of your pronunciations.
Your weekly assignments should be submitted through the dropbox and they must be labeled with the following format:
[Your Last Name], [Your First Name] – Week Pronounciations | |
For example: | Doe, John – Week1 Pronounciations |
Submit your assignment to the Dropbox located on the silver tab at the top of this page. For instructions on how to use the Dropbox, read these Step-by-Step Instructions or watch this Dropbox Tutorial.
