She believed that every human has a unique and unpredictable set of needs, and it is only right to accept and honor these needs, regardless of these differences. She also believed that a holistic approach focusing on the mind, body, and soul is necessary for a person to be fully healed. Each individual has to be valued and understood, with the nurse being present at all times and with the patient’s dignity remaining protected and intact at all times. Watson’s humanistic ontological point of view shifts to a mystical one as she points out that a person can expand their inner healing power and reach an intuited mystic and even miracle-like experience through caring moments (Nikfarid, 2018).               The prohibition of visitors these days, as well as being unfamiliar with one’s surroundings and medical condition, can hinder a patient’s capacity to accomplish duties on his own, denying him the opportunity to enjoy his autonomy. The sufferer may feel powerless and even discouraged as a result. The nurse must be present to calm and support the patient with these activities. The nurse can assist the patient in coping and preventing the patient from feeling powerless and depressed. It is critical to ensure that healthcare providers are treating the patient holistically. When doing so, consider body, mind, and spirit. “The metaparadigm nursing component entails providing optimal health outcomes for patients through a reciprocal partnership in a safe and caring environment” (Dupree, 2018). A healthcare provider needs to furnish knowledgeable care in a safe and caring environment. According to Watson, it is critical to ensure that the patient feels cared for and protected while receiving professional health care. Nursing is a human science that explores the essence of human caring. Communication is the first step to building rapport with the patient. When the nurse appears knowledgeable and confident in his or her skills, the patient will trust them. In doing so, the patient will then be more open to listening to the education provided regarding their care. When all of this ties together, the patient will have an improved outcome. According to Alligood (2014), the strategy to achieve connection is transpersonal care, in which the nurse and the patient evolve together. Being able to demonstrate to the patient that you care about them as a person and are looking out for their best interests can actually help them heal.
